The St. Mary's Book Award is a Children's Choice award which is now in its eighth year. One out of five short-listed picture books will be chosen by the students of St. Mary's International School to receive the award.

Previously, students from RP - Grade 6 listened to the short-listed titles during library classes and voted on the best title. This year, students from RP - Grade 3 will be participating in the vote. The students are encouraged to evaluate the books in regards to both the storyline and the illustrations.

This year, the program will run from October 2008 to December 2008, and the winning book will be announced in mid-December 2008.

In 1999, when the award began, the library ran a logo design competition. The logo that was chosen to identify the winning SMBA books, was designed by Kaito Hara when he was in Grade1. .
