Library Hours

The Elementary Library is open every school day from 8:15 am to 4:15 pm.
We are not open on school holidays or weekends.

Parents are welcome to use the library for checking out books.
As we have a busy schedule of classes, it would be appreciated if you could limit your visits to the following times:

*before school (8:15 am-8:40 am)        *after school (3:15 pm-4:15 pm).

This will make your time in the library more fruitful and enjoyable!
RP students can come to the ES Library after school with a parent.

How many books can you checkout?

Students

  • RP: may checkout 1 book for one cycle.
  • Grade 1: may checkout 2 books for one cycle.
  • Grade 2: may checkout 2 books for one cycle.
  • Grade 3: may checkout 3 books for two cycles.
  • Grade 4: may checkout 4 books for two cycles.
  • Grade 5: may checkout 5 books for two cycles.
  • Note: a cycle is equal to six school days.

Parents

  • The checkout period for parents is two cycles.
  • Renewals are possible for another two cycles unless the book has been requested by another user. You can call us to renew books.
  • Parents may checkout 10 books at a time.
  • Parents are encouraged to also check out the great range of magazines in the elementary library.

  • There is a parents' shelf in the Middle/High School Library with a great range of books about parenting. You are welcome to check these books out.

Overdue Books

Students

If you forget your library books you cannot checkout new books. When you return the overdue books you may then checkout new books even if it is not your regular library day.

Students in grades 4 to 5 are fined for overdue books:
¥10 per book per day (so don't forget your books!)

If you are absent from school you will not be fined for late books. If you have overdue book/s , you lose the privilege of borrowing until the overdue book/s have been returned and, in the case of students in grade 4-5, all fines have been cleared.

Reminder notices are sent every month for overdue books.

Parents

At this stage parents are not fined for overdue books. We do ask you however, to please be considerate and return your books on or before the due date. This also provides a good example for your child! Thank you.

Lost or Damaged Items

If you lose a book or it is damaged in some way, you will have to pay for it. Notices are sent to your parents informing them what book/s have been lost or damaged and the cost of replacing the book/s.

If a lost book is 'found' and is in good condition, the replacement cost is refunded in full.

Library Manners

The library is a special place in the school and while general school rules apply, there are a few extra 'manners' we ask every library user to follow.
  1. Talk and walk quietly in the library.
  2. No food or drink allowed.
  3. Treat books like a friend - handle all books with care, have clean hands, turn the pages at the corners, use a bookmark and use a library bag to carry the books if possible.
  4. Return library books on time.
  5. Report 'sick' books - if you find a book with a torn or loose page, ripped cover or any type of damage, show the library staff so it can be repaired.
  6. Ask for help! - the library staff are here to help you.
  7. No cellular phones in the library.

  8. Remember:
"People who read are the ones who succeed!"
